Georgian GM Zurab Azmaiparashvili, now the first deputy Minister of Sports and Youth gave an interview to the newspaper Sport-Express in which he told about how was made the decision to hold one of the Women's Grand Prix stages in Tbilisi, Georgia:

"The FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived to Georgia in February by the invitation of the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia Levan Kipiani. He asked the prime-minister Bidzina Ivanishvili if Georgia could host one of the stages of the Women's Grand Prix. I was already getting ready for the discussion and asked Kirsan's assistant Berik Balgabaev how much it would cost. "220 thousand Euros," he replied. Ivanishvili said "OK" leaving me no chance to argue.

Before that Geoffrey Borg has called me several times with the same request. I refused his proposition as I can't ask Ivanishvili to invest in something 220 thousand Euros being unaware of what that may bring Georgia. That's, however, absolutely different when Ivanishvili makes the decision by his own! Thanks to his decision our talented player Bela Khotenashvili got the wild card and eventually she has won the 1st stage of the Grand Prix held in Geneva.

That's how the decision to hold the Women's Grand Prix in Tbilisi was made. We're hosting the 2015 World Children's Chess Olympiad and the World Mind Sports Games in 2016. In the course of the meeting we suddenly started to talk about the World Olympiad. Berik Balgabaev noted that Baku will spend 16 million Euros on the Olympiad which will take place in 2016. Bidzina Ivanishvili interrupted him saying he is ready to deposit 16 million Euros for holding the Olympiad-2018 just now. Everyone became speechless for a moment! Do you know anyone ready to invest 16 million Euros in chess?"
