The president of the European Chess Union gave an interview to the Bulgarian website and told about his relationship with FIDE president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

"I am the only opposition to FIDE," Danailov said." Everyone else remains silent and doesn't dare to criticise. I am independent so I am able to express myself freely. I welcome FIDE officials' work when it's done properly, however, when I see the mistakes - and you have plenty of them - I react accordingly. Upon necessity I bring the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. I already one the case regarding to FIDE intention to charge federations with 200 thousand EUR if they want to sue them. I know I am not there favourite, but that doesn't really bother me. I work for chess. The current FIDE board ran out of steam and should be replaced. I will continue fight to make it happen, I still have time. The elections are taking place next August."

On a question if he is ready to run for FIDE president, Danailov replied yet he doesn't feel ready. He is planning to work another four years as the ECU president. "The elections are scheduled to the very same time as the ones for FIDE president and yet there is no other candidacy to challenge me," Danailov added.
