Russian Championship' Superfinals opened in Nizhny Novgorod  

The opening ceremony and drawing of the Russian Championsip Superfinal among men and women took place in Nizhny Novgorod today. The chief arbiter Anatoly Bykhovsky asked each player to choose one of the paintings hanging - each of the works had a starting number on the back. Top-seed GM Vladimir Kramnik was first to choose.    

He was most thorough to make a choice, which eventually paid off.

The favourite got #1.
