Norwegian GM might have played his best competition

The last round games of the Rilton Cup started today at 12:00 CET. Only GM Sergey Volkov of Russia could catch Hammer - he had to defeat Norwegian as Black.

Volkov won the Cup three years ago. Back then he did exactly this - defeated the leader (Bartlomiej Macieja) on Board 1 as Black. This time Sergey decided to make a 10-move draw.

This is the second big success of Jon Ludvig Hammer. Recently he finished first in the Open tournament London Chess Classic. Lately Hammer was also a widely discussed figure because of the Carlsen - Anand match. After the match had finished Carlsen said Hammer was his only second, whom he contacted via Skype. Later Hammer added that doesn't mean Carlsen didn't have other seconds except him.

By the start of the competition Hammer's rating was 2612. Now he gained 20 ELO points, his performance was 2845.
