Mahir Mamedov: "Vugar Gashimov Deserves To Be Immortalized"

Today Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was on an official visit in Baku. The FIDE President's visit to Azerbaijan is connected to the signing of contracts for the Olympiad 2016 and World Cup 2015 scheduled to be held in the capital of the country. The officials held the joint conference, where Mahir Mammadov, the Vice-President of the Azerbaijani Chess Federation, announced the budget for organising these two events. "The budget will be 15 million EUR.

Azerbaijan chess Federation Vice-President Mahir Mammadov in his wide interview given to extratime az. said that he is sure that Armenian team will become one of the participants of the 2016 chess Olympiad which will take part in Baku.

This was announced by the Vice President of the Azerbaijani Chess Federation Mahir Mamedov. 

The Azerbaijani director Araz Mamedov, who currently lives in US, will shoot a film Grandmaster dedicated to Vugar Gashimov, reports Day.az. 

"The movie is about a cynical businessman, chess enthusiast who will be punished for his overconfidence and egoism." Gashimov was advising the moviemaker in chess combinations and leading chess websites.

Two round-robin tournaments will be held in Shamkir, Azerbaijan in April this year. As the source told Chess-News, naming the participants except those who already confirmed their participation is premature. Magnus Carlsen is expected to play and there's a big probability that two leading Azerbaijani GMs (Teimour Radjabov and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov) will also participate. The participants of the B-group is also not known yet. 

Ashot Vardapetyan, Deputy Chief Arbiter at the European Club Cup in Eilat and the Vice-President of the Armenian Chess Federation, gave an interview to the website extratime.az addressing kind words to the Azerbaijani Chess Federation (ACF). The topic was raised in connection to the Olympiad-2016 which will take place in Baku.

The Azerbaijani President's official website published Ilkham Aliyev's order to create the Organizing Committee for holding the World Cup 2015 and Olympiad 2016 which are planned to take place in Baku. The First Deputy Prime Minister Yakub Eyyubov has been appointed as a Chairman of the Committee.
