Cap d'Agde: Friendly Russia-France Match

A friendly match between Russian and French mini-teams is underway in Cap d'Agde, France, as the key event of 3rd Trophée Anatoly Karpov. Anatoly Karpov and Valentina Gunina are representing Russia, while the French team consists of Romain Edouard and Marie Sebag. The rapid part has been over today (5.5-2.5 to Russia), the blitz games will be played tomorrow, on October 25th.   • The 3rd edition of Trophée Anatoly Karpov will take place in Cap d'Agde, France from October 17 to October 25, Europe Echecs informs. It will consist of many different tournaments (more than 600 players have been registered so far) and will be preceded by the day of chess activities in Cap D'Adge schools on October 16.

  • The quarter-final encounters of the rapid tournament held in Cap d'Agde have finished. Vassily Ivanchuk beat Ju Wenjun in both games, while anatoly Karpov defeat Romain Edouard 1.5 - 0.5.


  • This June, the French city of Caen (the capital of Lower Normandy) hosted celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the Allied troops landing in Normandy. The event coincided with the Economic Forum, where heads of states will meet, as well as with the European Youth Forum.

    As part of the celebrations, former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov put on a simultaneous display, showing off his skills in games against members of the European Youth Parliament and leading players from the Caen chess club.

  • A unique event organised by the Chess Federation of the Republic of Togo will take place on January 19. The federation was included in FIDE just recently in 2012 prior to the Istanbul Olympiad. The players representing Togo will fight against the strongest players of South of France (Nice, Marseille, French Riviera). Yet the team consists of six players, but it may be enlargened later. The match will take place on and will be available to follow free of charge.
