Wesley So: "Akobian my friend? He was once..."

As predicted by Sam Shankland, Wesley So was not laid low by yesterday's incident. The "hardened professional" recovered and today beat Gata Kamsky with Black. So stated afterwards that he will again be playing to win in tomorrow's final round against Kayden Troff.

Maurice Ashley asked So about what happened yesterday. The Grandmaster repeated almost word for word what he had written previously. He also confirmed that he had been making notes on his scoresheet earlier in the tournament and the arbiter had warned him about this. But So believed that if he made notes on another sheet of paper, he would not be breaking the rules.

So admitted that making extraneous notes during the game is an old habit of his. He has done it many times, including at tournaments of the highest rank. But this time, his habit "turned into a nightmare".

"What did I think at the moment when I was disqualified? I thought I was going to be playing an event with one game fewer".

So indicated that he wants to prevent the game being rated, but in the process, he accepts the result and is not going to challenge it.

At the end, he made his most controversial statement: "There is no doubt that Akobian just wanted a gift point".

"But Varuzhan said you are friends!" - retorted the interviewer.

"We were once", - Wesley corrected him.

Hikaru Nakamura reacted at once to this final comment, calling it "shameful" and "disrespectful". "He blames everyone except himself for breaking the rules".
