Voronezh: 13-year Old Crushes Rating Favourite

Время публикации: 13.06.2015 22:25 | Последнее обновление: 13.06.2015 23:51

In the Russian city of Voronezh, the main event has started at the annual chess festival in memory of Alexander Alekhine. It involves 128 players, including 27 GMs. In the first round of the 9-round event, things went largely in favour of the favourites, as usual, but it was not wholly without shocks. The biggest sensation came on board one, where 13-year old FM Semyon Lomasov from Moscow crushed the top seed Grandmaster Ivan Bukavshin (2647).

LOMASOV - BUKAVSHIN

A few moves earlier, the Russian youth champion u-21 incautiously weakened his king position for which he was quickly and mercilessly punished.
21.Re4 Kh8?! (More tenacious is 21...Bf8) 22.Nxd4! exd4 The decisive mistake, but even the strongest line was cheerless: 22...Bb4 23.Bg7+! Kxg7 24.Rg4+ Kh8 25.Qh6 Re7 26.Nc6 Qf8 27.Qxf8 Rxf8 28.Rxb4! axb4 29.Nxe7.
23.Rxd4 Rb7 24.Bg7+! A brilliant deflection combination. 24...Kxg7 25.Rg4+ Kf8 (25...Kh8 26.Qh6) 26.Qd5. Mate is unavoidable, Black resigned. 1-0

The first day saw a FischerRandom tournament (15 minutes + 3 seconds per move), in which 56 players took part, including 12 GMs. The winner was Dmitry Bocharov from Novosibirsk, with 6/7.

  • In Zeeland, the Hogeschool Zeeland tournament has ended. Admittedly, the winner Wei Yi, who produced a whole series of !! moves, won only one other game in the event and finished fourth.

  • After his triumph in Zurich, Arkadij Naiditsch, as well as some other participants, went without delay to another open in Switzerland.
