Evgeny Sveshnikov on Game 2 against Karpov: "I was a Cheat!"

Evgeny Sveshnikov is looking forward to continue his uncompromised chess battle against Anatoly Karpov in Riga. A few hours before the start of the 3rd game, he shared with our website some of his impressions about the second game which had ended in his favour yesterday.

"Let me be honest: I was cheating!", says Sveshnikov. "Alexey Dreev had been correct in his recent publication, I agree with him totally, so I'm using his terminology. Roughly prior to the 12th move, I was playing according to preparation. But - according to my own preparation! This is the key difference between me and many others. This is exactly why I'm against my games being included in the electronic databases for free. Some people would laugh at my idea about the copyright, but it doesn't make me laugh when I see the fruits of my work being used by others, including in preparation against myself."

As to how the match is going in general, Sveshnikov remembers what Karpov had said in his youth: "To beat an opponent in a match, you have to convince him that you are stronger". "I don't need convincing that Karpov is stronger than me, laughed the veteran, "I know that very well. But I will fight..."
