The fact that Magnus Carlsen is leading the World Rapid Championship is hardly surprising for anyone, but Sergei Zhigalko sharing the lead with him is more of a plot twist. Both have 8 out of 10 before the crucial day.

On the second playing day, Carlsen beat Wojtaszek, Guseinov and Radjabov. His games against Nepomniachtchi and Dubov ended in draws. The Belarusian player's victims have been Gelfand, Bocharov, Nepomniachtchi, while Leko and Kryvoruchko have managed to hold. Carlsen - S. Zhigalko encounter will take place in the 11th round which is the starting one tomorrow.

What makes it all the more interesting is that Zhigalko's successful performance coincided with the day when Alexander Lukashenko was reelected as the president of Belarus for already the fifth time.
