November 5th, 2010 - the website made a first move

Igor Zaitsev, Honored coach of USSR

When I worked for the magazine “64” our editor-in-chief Alexander Roshal and I were dreaming about the daily newspaper. Chess life in those years was also intensive, eventful and we’d have what to talk about. However, our plans stayed unrealizable.

The website Chess-News could make our dreams come true. Moreover, the speed of spreading information became incomparably faster, which is very important.  […]

Congratulations on your anniversary! I’m visiting your website more frequently and I hope this tendency will stay in progress.

Victoria Cmilyte, Grandmaster, European Champion

It’s hard to believe the website is only one year old. It’s seems that it exists for much longer as far as getting news from it has already become a habit for me.

Vladimir Kramnik, Grandmaster, Former World Champion

Personally I have a feeling as if Chess-News has always existed – visiting it became an ordinary thing for me. That means much.

I know that almost for all top-chess players the website became a must-be. They visit it first thing everyday.

Chess-News is an up-to-date website, the product of the XXI century. That varies it from the most, if not all other existing chess resources. It works practically in LIVE mode. I think this is a future journalism: you get the information of what is happening in the course of half an hour. To my mind, nothing similar has existed and still doesn’t exist in the chess world.

All that needs round-the-clock work and not everyone would agree to do it. That’s why it seems to me that the chess players have to be grateful to the creators and workers of this website, because they are ready to work for 24 hours.

I wish your enthusiasm wouldn’t end in the foreseeable future.

Zurab Azmaiparashvili, Grandmaster

I’d like to congratulate Chess-News on this festive occasion. At such a young age you’ve achieved excellent results – you became the most widely read Russian-language website as well as the most loved one in the post-Soviet area. That happened due to these distinctive features – transparency and impartiality, interesting stories and up-to-date information as well as innovations and wit of the authors. […]

Nadezhda Kosintseva, Grandmaster

I think, that’s not only my opinion, that Chess-News became the most popular website among Russian-speaking chess players, their supporters and other people connected to our world. […]

The website develops dynamically; it’s seen that Evgeni Surov keeps abreast of the chess events that take place all over the world. So frequent are the updates of the news that sometimes, it seems the Chess-News team doesn’t have not only dinner breaks, but breakfast, supper and everyday sleep.

These colorful pictures of the players, not only at the chessboard, creativity or non-triviality of the authors, provocative headlines that are unusual for the serious chess editions – the things that helped this website to win popularity among chess players, who, despite their superficial seriousness, turned to be pretty much interested in “gossip columns” or let’s say “yellowness”.  […]

Teimour Radjabov, Grandmaster

Chess-News established itself as one of the best news websites in the chess world from the very beginning. Abundance and timeliness of news, interviews and videos gained popularity for it among a large number of amateurs as well as among high-level professionals. I, personally, always browse it with an interest.  […]

Evgeny Tomashevsky, Grandmaster

I can’t remember when I first discovered Chess-News while surfing through the Internet. It’s not so important how and why it happened – the most important is that I didn’t want to close the page. I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of chess content which wasn’t only of news matters as one could think from its name. Efficient reports from the most interesting events, commentaries of the participants and others, reviews and discussions on the topical problems – it appeared that everything can be gathered in one place and published regularly, not occasionally. […]

I’d also like to mention that recently CN, due to its transparency and impartiality, became a place of discussion for the tops of the chess world: that has to be deserved.

Boris Postovski, Honored coach of Russia

I’d like to congratulate all the workers and a large number of readers of the website on a successful completion of the first working year.  I visit the website every day, sometimes 2-3 times a day. I like the efficiency of covering events and reporting results, references are easy to use, Gena Sosonko’s excellent reports as well as interviews with the professionals. [...]

Dmitri Plisetski, a writer, co-author of Garry Kasparov’s books

I’m very glad that such a wonderful website appeared exactly on November 5th – on a day when my memorable grandfather, who discovered a chess world to me, was born. Congratulations to everybody who is involved to this small miracle!

Alexey Dreev, Grandmaster

I ain't like everything on this website, but I'm going to visit it regularly.

Ilya Levitov, Chairman of the Russian Chess Federation

Chess-News motivates us a lot.

Silvio Danailov, President of the European Chess Union

Congratulations on your birthday!

You achieved excellent result during the year – you became number one among Russian-language chess websites. In my opinion, in general you’re second in the world after Chessdom.

Maia Chiburdanidze, Grandmaster, five-times World Champion

Over the past year Chess-News not only won a reputation of a new and interesting chess web, but became a welcome guest at almost every chess lover’s house.

I’m sure that the main award for the people who created and developed the website is its growing popularity and positive references. That’s why I’d like to thank Zhenia Surov for his enthusiasm and love to chess. […]
