Viswanathan Anand and Boris Gelfand signed a contract for the upcoming World Championship match at the news agency “Interfax”. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the Chairman of the Russian Chess Federation Supervisory Board Arkady Dvorkovich also put their signatures on the contract.

The match with a prize fund of $ 2.55 million split 60%/40% between the winner and the looser respectively, will take place from 10-31 May 2012 in Moscow’s Tretyakov Gallery. The opponents will play a twelve-game classical time control match. The winner of the match will be announced as the World Champion. In case of a draw the winner will be detected on a tie-break.

“I’m very glad to sign this agreement and also to have an opportunity to return to Moscow in May next year to defend my title. We’ve just visited the place of the future competition and it’s a very beautiful gallery. I hope the venue will inspire us to play very beautiful, artistic chess… I think Moscow chess fans deserve such an event” - noted Anand.

Boris Gelfand underlined that it’s a great honor for him to sign this contract: “I’d like to thank everyone who made it possible to hold this match”.

Arkady Dvorkovich expressed confidence on the match to become a grand event and promised to organize a high-quality live broadcast of the match in order the spectators to feel themselves as its part.
