Sofiko Guramishvili - among the leaders of EIWCC

The European Individual Women Chess Championship is being held from March 2-13 in the Anatolian Hotel in Gaziantep, Turkey. The second day of the Championship was marked with a surprising result on the first board, Guramishvili - Kosintseva N. encounter.

The game turned out to be dramatical. The Russian player chose King's Indian defence and up to the 20th move her strategy looked quite successful. White got the endgame with complications, while Kosintseva continued increasing her advantage. It's hard to guess why Nadezhda hasn't played 34...Rc1+ putting White in a practically hopeless position.

Georgian player used her only advantage h6-pawn as efficiently as it was possible and isolated Black king.

The ending can be clasified as showy for Kosinteva, in a hopeless position, tried to use some miraculous stalemate motifs to save the game:

GURAMISHVILI - KOSINTSEVA N.

48...Bd3 49.Rхd3 Rf1+ 50.Kхf1 e2+ 51.Kg2! Black resigned,  neither 51...e1Q, nor 51...e1N+ are any helpful.

Other results were less surprining. Guramishvili's compatriots Lela Javakhishvili, Bela Khotenashvili, Nino Khurtsidze, Nazi Paikidze and Nana Dzagnidze also won their games.

Take a look at some of the games.

Round 3 will be held tomorrow 17:00 MSK Time.
