Valentina Gunina and Cristina Foisor Lead in EIWCC

In the 6th and 7th rounds of the European Individual Women's Chess Championship taking place in Turkey, Valentina Gunina of Russia has consecutively outplayed the former world champion Antoaneta Stefanova and the leader Hoang Thanh Trang.

22...Bb7 was the last hope for Black experiencing obviously worse position, but after 22...Rab8?! 23.Rxd5 Bxb5 24.axb5 Rxb5 which took place in the game, it became practically impossible for Black to keep up with its numerous weaknesses. Russian player converted her advantage into a point.

Gunina, therefore, got a chance to become a sole leader, however, at the end of the 7th round Cristina-Adela Foisor managed to defeat the former European champion Viktorija Cmilyte in a protracted endgame. The experienced Romanian player implied a vigorous idea.

After 77...cxb4 78.c5 Be7 79.c6 Black could have tried 79...Bd8, leaving d6 free for the king, however, even in this case White had all chances to win.  Cmilyte chose 79...Bd6 80.Kf3 - White king moved to d5, while the bishop kept defending f5-pawn. Soon after Cmilyte lost.

Gunina and Foisor gathered 6/7 four rounds before the end of the prestigious competition. They're facing each other in Round 8.
