Full point lead one round before the finish

The leader and rating favourite Anna Muzychuk of Slovenia managed to overplay the former European Champion Viktorija Cmilyte of Lithuania in the 10th round of the European Individual Women's Chess Championship which takes place in Gaziantep,Turkey.

An extremely tough and sharp fight started from the very opening.

CMILYTE (Lithuania) - MUZYCHUK (Slovenia)

An interesting sacrifice for the attack could be applied on 17th move 17.Nxg4!? fxg4 18.Nxb5!. However, Cmilyte chose 17.0-0 a6.

Now White could play 18.a4! having some considerable perspective, and again, Cmilyte made another choice 18.Nd5 Ra7 19.b3 c3, instead of activating rest of the pieces (20.Rfe1, 21.Nf1), Lithuanian chose not the best plan: winning back c3-pawn. After 20.Rd3 O-O 21.Rc1 Be6 22.Nxc3 Rc8 White got pinned, Black activated and gradually got a decisive advantage. Muzychuk converted advantage into a victory.

An important Lahno - Gunina encounter finished in a draw.

Muzychuk wins her nearest rivals (Gunina and Kosintseva T. who beat Stefanova) a full point. Cmilyte losses Slovenian 1.5 points and hasn't any chance to save her title.
