Armenia Applies for Hosting the European Championship in 2014

The websitearmchess.am reported that the Armenian Chess Federation filed an official application to the European Chess Union for holding the European Championship 2014 in Erevan. The tournament is supposed to be dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the 9th World Champion Tigran Petrosian (1929 - 1984).
Armenia hasn't yet hosted any of the individual continental championships.
The European Chess Union made a decision of holding the European Individual Championship 2014 in Erevan, Armenia. This has been reported by the website armchess.am. The competition is planned to be dedicated to the memory of the 9th World Champion Tigran Petrosian on the anniversary of his 85th birthday in 2014.
The official Newsletter of the European Chess Union informs about some of the decisions approved at ECU Board meeting in Bastia. It was held on June 7th-8th and was organized by the President of the Corsican Chess League, Mr. Leo Battesti.
Silvio Danailov thinks that ECU and FIDE should consolidate and do everything they can in order Armenian team to be able to play at the Olympiad 2016 in Baku:
Ashot Vardapetyan, Deputy Chief Arbiter at the European Club Cup in Eilat and the Vice-President of the Armenian Chess Federation, gave an interview to the website extratime.az addressing kind words to the Azerbaijani Chess Federation (ACF). The topic was raised in connection to the Olympiad-2016 which will take place in Baku.
The following press statement has been published on June 22nd on the European Chess Union official website. Among other things, the ECU informs that it has nothing to do with the tournaments held in Albena and Golden Sands in 2014, and those tournaments were not part of the ECU official calendar for 2014.
The Men's and Women's USA Championships have started today in Saint Louis at 22.00 Moscow time. The official opening of the tournaments happened earlier.
The President of ACP GM Emil Sutovsky shared some of the key desicions reached by FIDE at the last Presidential Board in Elista on the air of Chess-News radio. In particular, according to Sutovsky, FIDE set the minimum prize funds for the continental competitions.
