The Indian player won the tie-break against Boris Gelfand with difficulty and a certain portion of luck: 2.5-1.5

After defeating Boris Gelfand on a rapid tie-break of the World Championship match which has finished in Moscow with the overall score 2.1-1.5 Viswanathan Anand remained the title for the next two years.

Anand needed a draw in the last rapid game. His opening choice wasn't the best one and soon Anand went in a bit worse endgame with almost traditional for the match advantage of pair of bishops for Gelfand; however, Gelfand's uneconomical use of time didn't allow him to convert the advantage he has got in the opening. Gradually the position equalized and Anand managed to hold.
